The history of the park
The forest and the trees
The trees tell the history of the park. Many of the large beeches, old oaks and the dense alder swamp along Ørnsø have been here since the time of the Silkeborg Vandkuranstalt. Between the trunks are also hidden holly and bird cherry – companion trees that naturally belong in Danish forests.
Park trees
When the park was created, many new species were planted, which means that the park today has large linden trees and exotic conifers – such as the Japanese larch, which was planted all the way back in 1932. Some trees have also found their way here on their own, for example willow, hazel and warty birch.
There are many old species and lots of exciting nature to explore – each tree hides a little piece of history.
Gifts for the spa
Many gave gifts that decorated both the outside and inside. Sculptor Nanna Johansen gave the statues "Nøkken" and "Venus and Cupid". The New Carlsberg Foundation provided copies of "Aarhus Girl" and "Sandal Weaver". Three Italian pots were also placed in the park. The trout pond, spring lake with masonry and lion heads and the memorial to chief physician Frederik Emil Klee were paid for by the spa's guests.
